Founded in the mid-1970s in the vibrant Khalidiya district of Abu Dhabi by a skilled Syrian chef and his wife, Abu Kaabi began as a humble home‑style venue. The restaurant quickly became a local favorite, with neighbors calling out, “Abu Kabi has started cooking!” as the aroma of fresh grilled meats filled the air
Today, Abu Kaabi Kabab Restaurant & Grills is an award‑winning icon, honored with the prestigious Urban Treasures Award by DCT Abu Dhabi in recognition of its 20 year contribution to the emirate’s cultural and social fabric
Our story is a family legacy. The founder, known affectionately as “Abu Kabi”, built the business with his wife—he grilling meats out front under shady trees, she preparing appetizers with love . Their children grew up in the restaurant, folding napkins, billing orders, even chopping onions in their childhood days . Now, led by their son Michael Ohan—trained in France and an accomplished chef in his own right—the third generation continues the family's commitment to preserving the original, soul-filled spirit of Abu Kaabi
We remain true to our roots—simple, honest, and unpretentious. Although we now serve up to 100 guests per day, we haven’t changed our core concept or aesthetic. We believe in letting quality ingredients, traditional grilling techniques, and genuine hospitality speak for themselves—exactly as generations of our loyal patrons expect.
Years of experience
Michael Ohan, our current head chef and proprietor, holds a bachelor’s degree in hotel management from Vatel, France. Taking over in 2006 after his father’s passing, he has remained faithful to the recipes and ethos that made his parents’ restaurant beloved—while guiding Abu Kaabi into the modern era, without compromising authenticity
We're not here to reinvent the wheel—just to continue rolling it.
Expect the same honest, flavorful fare and familial warmth that has defined Abu Kaabi for five decades.
Join us in celebrating tradition—one marinated skewer at a time.
